Wake-uppers:

  • We love checking out our horoscopes every day with what cute fortune awaits us! Well, it's quite news for everyone! Here are our new respective zodiac signs. Prepare to adjust! Aries (April 19-May 13), Taurus (May 14-June 19), Gemini (June 20-July 20), Cancer (July 21-Aug 9), Leo (Aug 10-Sept 15), Virgo (Sept 16-Oct 30), Libra (Oct 31-Nov 22), Scorpio (Nov 23-Nov 29), Ophiuchus (Nov. 30-Dec. 17), Sagittarius (Dec. 18-Jan. 18), Capricorn (Jan. 19-Feb. 15), Aquarius (Feb. 16-March 11), Pisces (March 12-April 18). According to astrological principles, the Sun travels from the constellation Scorpius and goes directly into the sign of Sagittarius, but due to the constant motion of the cosmos, the Sun enters, for a few days of the year, the star constellation 'Ophiuchus' before entering Sagittarius from Scorpius, thus creating astrologically the birth of a thirteenth sign of the Zodiac, which is named as Ophiuchus the Serpent Holder. The constellation of Ophiuchus is the only sign of the Zodiac which is linked to a real man. This man lived in ancient Egypt around the 27th century BC, and his name was Imhotep. The attributes of Imhotep can also be found in the Biblical Hebrew man Joseph, son of Jacob. Imhotep is credited with many accomplishments including the knowledge and use of medicine. It is said Imhotep brought the art of healing to mankind. The symbol of a serpent, which is still widely used today to represent the medical profession, was used to represent Imhotep. Imhotep was also known as 'Aesclepius' to the ancient Greeks.
  • Boholana actress and performer Lailette Geulen-Boiser aka Scarlet in showbizlandia may start her year on a bright side with her role as Hilda on "Dwarfina," GMA-7's first telefantasya offering this 2011. Scarlet plays a small but big role in this telefantasya series which premiered on January 10. The Mike Tuviera telefantasya tells the tale of a girl (Heart Evangelista), who is barely the size of a finger, and her magical journey in the mortal and supernatural world.
  • A hot blind item from Miss D (welcome back!): "After hiding in a cave for months, Juanita Banana is back in town! He (she?) was nowhere to be found when news broke out about the fund scam by his cousin the frustrated Paris Hilton and his own scam. His Facebook was deactivated and he changed number. After realizing that he needs to face life (and he has to carry a very thick mask to face the people), he is now visible elsewhere. Juanita Banana has recently revived his Facebook to hunt for the forbidden banana costing P200 to P500 per piece! Well, as the saying goes ‘heal the wound but leave the scar.'"
  • And another blind item: In a hearing last week, the complainant appeared with horde of supporters and alalays (the same alalays who accompanied the complainant who filed the case last year) that made the prosecutor's office congested. "It's my first time to see it. I am glad there is no rally outside to support the complainant who is a local celebrity?" said an observer. One of the alalays went gaga over the respondent's lawyer when he (she?) saw the lawyer up close and personal. "Guwapo baya ang lawyer," said one observer. The alalays appeared to be first timers to attend a hearing; they acted as if they were the complainants. The room fell deadly silent while the hearing was done in English. "I hope they understand and they know what they are doing," said another observer.

Winona gets a classic South Pacific debut party

Talk about the South Pacific and you conjure images of breathtaking romantic getaways amidst the lapping of gentle waves, the swaying of palm trees and the soothing caress of the tropical breeze. And that was exactly what Winona Marie Dohig Baquial, a BS Medical Technology sophomore of Cebu Doctors University, had when she celebrated her 18th birthday one balmy Saturday evening at the posh Flushing Meadows Resort and Playground which was transformed into a fabulous island paradise replete with overflowing drinks and a sumptuous feast fit for a princess.

The South Pacific-themed party that was organized and emceed by Bohol's seasoned host Raul Gatal opened with the grand entrance of the debutante who looked stunning in an EJ Relampagos original was highlighted with dances from Guam, Tahiti, Hawaii, Fiji and Samoa and a stylized hula number from her Cebu Doctors classmates but what really brought the house down was the special number presented by Winona herself and her Dohig cousins.

For the 18 gentlemen, it was a unique experience for instead of the usual waltz, they presented her with tropical blooms and kisses on the cheeks. Afterwards, they paired off with the ladies and released 18 special lanterns up into the skies. A limbo rock challenge opened up the after party by the white sandy beach.

Celso and Ma. Teresa "Bebet" Baquial, Bohol's exclusive Pryce Gas dealers and the debutante's very proud parents, wish nothing but the best for their only child.

Though she is now 18, Winona explained that she is not yet ready to have a boyfriend. "Studies first," she says. How about mom? "I just hope that if there is a romantic involvement right now, I hope it would be an inspiration."
