The spotfin lionfish (Pterius antennata, Bloch, 1787) lives in lagunas and on coral reefs. During the day time, it hides in holes. Its main food are shells. Like all lionfish, this fish appears to be a slow and calm swimmer, but at times it can move forwards suprisingly fast, and, if disturbed, can attack divers. Although not deadly, the poison in its long tails is extremely painful.
