Bien Unido

IJsselstein, Monday, 14 February 2011

Bien Unido is a municipality in the North of Bohol. In an executive order in 1935 two sitios in northern Trinidad were united into one barangay and was given the name of Bien Unido, a Spanish word which means "well united". In order to hasten its economic, social, cultural and political upliftment, the people of Barangay Bien Unido aspire for independence and wanted to become a municipality. This long time dream which started in 1965 became a reality when in 1981 it was approved by Batasang Pambansa Blg. 93 through the efforts of then Assemblyman Bartolomeo Cabangbang and Eutiquio Cimafranca.

The principal industries of this town are fishing, farming and mat-weaving. Fish is sold to Cebu and mats are sold to Mindanao, Leyte, and also Cebu.

Greetings! Hello everyone! I just want to say that Bien-Unido is one of the magnificent places I’ve ever seen because of its natural landscape, wonderful beaches and scenic view of its places, that’s why I ALWAYS spent my summer vacation here. Moreover, the people of Bien-Unido are quite hospitable and easy to be with and humbly share their culture to its visitors specifically in the barangay of Nueva Esperanza. However for the past 20 years I OBSERVED AND EXPERIENCE that there are still families in “Naupa” who are unfortunate to benefit the water system of the town. I am much aware that such project is really an expensive and a risk as will, but I am more concerned with the initiatives of those families to cover up their NEEDS of water by digging the ground to search some source of water or in other words having a well of water. Base on studies, excessive pumping from wells has a big possibility that it will result to the INTRUSION OF SALT WATER into ground water if there will be a decreasing volume of water table and if this will happen (specially Bien Unido is near in the soar line) it will be really a big problem that needs long term solution and I hope that we will not reach in that point for good of the next generation. Respectfully Yours Chekoy
