Balilihan

The municipality of Balilihan is located in the interior part of Bohol. It is said to have been so called because of the grass (balili) which grew in abundance in the locality. Balilihan means "a place where plenty of grass grows." It is said to have been organized as a municipality in the 1828. It used to be a part of Baclayon and was sparsely settled. The seat of government was in the then sitio of Bay-sa-Iring but was later transferred to the present site because of the scarcity of water in that area.

In 1902, there was a move to fuse this town with Antequera but was vigorously opposed by the people. The following year, the municipality of Catigbian was annexed to Balilihan under Act No. 370 of the Philippine Commission. In 1879, it had a population of 5,998.

Fiesta

Balilihan celebrate its town fiesta on the 16th of July in honor of Virgin of Carmel.

How to get there:
You can take a bus from Dao Integrated Terminal bound for Sagbayan via Catigbian. Ask the driver to drop you off the center of Balilihan. From there you can take a habal habal to the waterfalls. There are jeepneys and multicabs going to Balilihan.

I stayed in Balilihan last summer 2012 during the great Balilihan Fiesta and enjoyed my time in this nice city with it's warm and cordial people a lot. Today i've heard about the strong earthquake which hit Bohol and the whole region. I strongly hope that the people of Balilihan are ok in general and that nobody was seriously injured or killed. My thoughts and prayers are currently with the inhabitants of Balilihan. Best regards from Switzerland

The barangay road towards Kawasan falls is a little south of of Balilihan poblacion, and indicated by a large sign. You could ask a bus to drop you off there, but then it is still a few kilometers walk. Alternatively, you can book up with the Abatan river tour, which ends at the Kawasan falls.--Jeroen.
