If you want to be a (co-owner) investor in some business directly, you'll have to know the market, and stay informed. In Bohol can certainly absorb investments in tourism or agricultural such as motorcycle and car rental rent out tourist for sight seeing in bohol tourist attraction or resort investment, fish and shrimp growing . call 09288418929 09065077848 email us

Hi Jeroen, I am currently doing a thesis about resorts in Bohol. I've been trying to research on updated costs in doing business in Bohol to make it more realistic than obsolete. Is there a way that you can help me on these? Much of the data needed were: Land cost in Panglao per sq. meter Building Cost(commercial) labor cost Cost of business tax annual Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks and God bless.:)

I don't have all the information at hand, but as a guidance: Beach front property in Panglao at 2000 pesos per square meter (Alona beach is considerably higher, if available at all); Minimum wage 245 pesos per day.--Jeroen.

My understanding is that the Philippines is a net gold exporter, whereas India is a gold importing country. Skilled labour cost will be roughly similar, so you will probably be better of exporting gold from the Philippines instead of trying to bring it there, that is if you can deal with the red-tape associated with this trade.--Jeroen.

Any comments about the viability of building an exclusive rental apartments in our beachfront lot in Panglao island, Bikini beach? Do you think we have good enough supply of tourists that are looking for places for extended periods of stay, let's say renting monthly? Just concern on return of investment potential in this type of business in Bohol. Well, in the U.S. if you have a house or apt. for rent esp. summer time, you can "never" go wrong. Thank you in advance.......

A number of people have such facilities, but not directly on the beach. At Alona beach, or other developed beaches, this will be difficult, although on other beaches it may still be possible. However, I think long-stay visitors are less inclinded to stay immediately on such beaches anyway. With this business, I can identify two key issues you have to resolve: First is marketing. How do you make sure potential visitors can find your place, and decide it is worthwhile to stay there, and second: maintenance: you will need somebody on the spot, who can be trusted to keep the place clean, and perform necessary repairs. You will be amazed about how quickly things break down with paying visitors in your house. If you have an answer to these two things, you might have a great business plan.--Jeroen.

On the other hand, we could show you a overlooking place I mean its really a border cliff to the ocean, the area is 17,558sqm, it has a 50 mango trees there well growned (10yrs old) and it has a house for staying.

Hi Arnold Just trying to give you some info about starting up a house rental business, this is my ultimate dream as well putting up a residential houses for rent must be or at least near in the center of commercial places like well known beaches, food center, etc. According to my neighbor who built up a bungalow just this year she spent more or less 900,000 pesos, not including the furniture and some primary appliances inside the house, the bungalow is divided to 2 rooms, she both give it for 7,500 a month, and its all the time rented for years. Each room has an area of just 50 sqm so the entire house is more or less 100 sqm My landlord built a bungalow house which has also measured to 100sqm and he spent 500-600,000 pesos it has 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom house in your case you would like a 3bedrooms with 2 bathrooms right? That might be between 700 to 800, 000 pesos budget including labor. If you still need to purchase a lot, it depends on the location, ist lot from the road is 1000 and up per sqm, 2nd lot would be 700to 800 per sqm, 3rd lot is mostly 500 per sqm. If you have 1,800,000 on hand then you're rock just find the right people to help you out... Good luck! Godspeed... Cheryl

Please give me some info regarding residential houses. The cost of a typical three bedrooms two bath house. Thanks! For a small scale start up of any business, how much should I have on hand to be able to open my door to the public?

Both questions cannot be answered without much more information. A small sari-sari shop can be started with a few thousand pesos; a fully fledged beach resort will require several million US dollars. Similarly, houses with three bedrooms and two baths can be build for about a million pesos, or cost as much as ten, depending on location, luxury and quality.--Jeroen.

Your info on the island is great but I wanna know the exact location as to where business opportunities are available. Think some sort of business adds or buy and sell maybe can help? I know there are lots of OFW's, businessmen or small entreprenuers who really want to invest. Thank you.

Much of the art of doing business is finding these opportunities, and then to grab them. If you just have cash you want to invest, depending on the level of risk you're willing to take, a savings account, investment fund, or stock may be options. If you have idealistic reasons to invest in Bohol, look for a micro-credit organisation. If you want to be a (co-) investor in some business directly, you'll have to know the market, and stay informed. In my non-professional opinion, Bohol can certainly absorb investments in tourism, taking care to differ from existing ventures. For example, there is space for a company oriented towards active holidays other than scuba diving, such as trekking, spelunking, mountain biking, etc. In the agricultural field, I think fruits and vegetable gardens are under-represented. Maybe there is even an opportunity to grow flowers (orchids, etc.) for the international market. A lot of skilled and creative people leave Bohol, but it may be worthwhile to see if some creative outsourcing company can be set-up, aiming at design and arts, ranging from high-tech IT job, web-design and DTP, to paintings from pictures on request.--Jeroen.

When we visited earlier this year there seemed to be one or two resorts that had fallen on hard times and wonder if we could find out more about them to reactivate them, alternativly we might have to start from scratch or consider alternatives such as a shop. We also met the local mayor, Mr Oriculo Granada who seemed very enthusiastic about the opportunity for new development. We would be very pleased to create job opportunities on the island of Bohol .

Looking forward to seeing Bohol again soon

Richard and Irene Van Raay

Although there are now three resorts in operation (as far as I know), we believe the area still has enough potential, if handled with care. Not only the beaches, but also the hills in the area and on the Anda peninsula are nice (and you can still find tarsiers in that area, if you know how to find them). The only issue is the two hour's travel time from Tagbilaran or Talibon, which makes it a bit further from the most common ports of entry, and requires a more self-contained type of operation.--Jeroen.

I want to start a new business in Tagbilaran, but I don't really what are the in demands of the people. I want to know if what kind of business will best click in a place like Bohol? A business which does now require big capital or investment. A small scale that I can start my own with some help of my family.

We, Boholanos from Saudi Arabia, formed a cooperative named Boholano Overseas Workers and Community Credit Cooperative or BOWACCC. Can you recommend us any business or project that we shall be venturing in the near future? Is there any agency (NGO or gov't.) which could possibly help us out, in terms of financial assistance, to pursue our business and/or project.

We are temporarily holding office at Door 3 Mascarinas Apartment, 11 New Calceta St. Cogon, Tagbilaran City care: Mrs. Glo L. Bonite.

Thank you and regards,

Dong Bonite
hometown: Panglao

This depends on the objectives you have with your cooperative. The name suggests something along the lines of the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and their US branch, and I can advice you to study materials on this initiative.

Reach out for those who cannot access the commercial or even government banks. Support projects that enable people to supply local needs, and do so in a sustainable way, but also product that enable the same people to earn hard cash, and develop something bigger and better than just survival.

There are already too many sari-sari shops, poluting tricycles, internet cafés, and both local and large scale fishing activities are depleting the seas surrounding Bohol in a scandalous way. I also think there are too many fishponds.

However, these negatives may be turned in positives: projects that research for alternatives for expensive and poluting fuels, using the islands waning copra production to create an alternative for diesel. Supporting local marine sanctuaries, or "fish nurseries" in various ways, including ways to enable those who invest time and money in them to reap the profits of them. There is a lack of fruits and vegetables in the Boholano's diet, so building up accessible knowledge centers on fruit and vegetable production will be welcome--even though it means educating the public on their diet. I'm thinking about small scale Mango farms and vegetable and spice gardens.

In the tourism sector, mostly the realm of foreign or Filipino-Chinese investors, their might be space for various kinds of support facilities: trekking, mountain-biking, canooing, spelunking, and even educating local dive-masters and whale and dolphin watching guides.

In the field of education, there is huge demand for computer education, but I find the levels of such courses often extremely low. It would be better to integrate computers into regular courses, as most that is required is operational knowledge of using computers in a certain profession, recognizing that a computer is an universal tool. Having said that, I think their is space for course that tap of the artistic creativity of the Boholano's, using technology, such as graphic design, art, traditional crafts, as well as courses that teach skills at the vocational level in many fields -- in the Philippines there is a big gap between unskilled labour and engineers, which needs to be filled to enable the local industry to produce products at more durable quality standards -- carpenters, plumbers, electricians, masons, etc., and try to find ways to make employers reward these extra skills.

I expect little from Government institutions in way of funding -- you'll spend more pursuing subsidy oppertunities than they will eventually yield, and NGO's often have a lack of funding themsselves. In all these undertakings, I think it is wise to start small, and try to achieve growth from successful projects.

Success with your projects, and please keep me updated.

I want to known if there is Car & Truck wash in Tabilaran City, or Laundromat for washing clothes. I need to know also if there's is water running everyday in the City? have a nice day to you all!

Running water normally is not a problem. I don't know about car or truck washing services, but most of the larger hotels will be able to provide laundry service. If your staying for a longer time, just ask around, and you'll probably be able to find such services easily.--Jeroen.
